Patrick Byrne This video explains the production of hybrid cultivars in sunflowers. The male parent produces large amounts of pollen and the female parent is male sterile, so its flowers can only be pollinated by the nearby male fertile parent. The hybrid progeny have higher seed yields and a higher oil percentage.
