USDA National Agricultural Library This 23-minute video is a historical silent motion picture produced by the USDA in the 1920s. The film briefly describes the Department of Agriculture’s activities in introducing economically important plants from around the world to develop crops that can be grown in the United States. The film shows agricultural explorers in search of plants. Imported plants are inspected and fumigated at a quarantine facility. There are brief histories of the introduction of oranges, persimmons, avocados, dates, olives, durum wheat, rice, sorghum, Sudan grass, soybeans, and cotton. Film footage shows the cultivation of these crops in the United States.
