USDA National Agricultural Library This 10-minute video is a historical silent motion picture produced by the USDA in the 1920s. The film shows some of the many products made from bamboo in regions where it grows abundantly. Products include lumber and siding for buildings, bridges, ladders, furniture, matting, fences and plant protectors, baskets, and irrigation pipes. USDA plant explorers David Fairchild and P.H. Dorsett collected information while James H. Dorsett captured the film footage for this motion picture in 1926 and 1927 during an expedition to the islands of Sumatra and Java.
