NARO Uganda. Cassava (also known as yuca or manioc) is an important crop for producers and consumers in Uganda. It grows well in poor soils and is tolerant of drought conditions. Starting around 1990, cassava growers noticed an increase in the insect pest cassava whitefly, which vectors diseases and impacts harvest yield.
