Wheat germplasm resistant to Fusarium head blight (FHB) has been developed by transferring a chromosome segment from Thinopyrum elongatum (tall wheatgrass) to a mutated version of the bread wheat cultivar ‘Chinese Spring’. The introgression is a relatively small segment at the distal end of the long arm of wheat chromosome 7D. The Th. elongatum resistance is now in a form that is more easily available for use in wheat breeding programs.
