Roger Chetelat. Learn about several important wild relatives of tomato from Dr. Roger Chetelat, former director of the C.M. Rick Tomato Genetics Resource Center (TGRC) in Davis, California. Among other benefits, these wild species have contributed disease resistance to commercially grown tomato cultivars, improving their resilience against Fusarium wilt, powdery mildew, Verticillium wilt, tomato mosaic virus, tomato spotted wilt virus, root-knot nematode, and more. The TGRC is affiliated with the USDA National Plant Germplasm System and UC Davis.
